What's her name?
Here's the scene: Henry and I were laying in bed tonight. We had just finished saying prayers and were chatting about random stuff.
Out of the blue, he asks me:
"Dad, I have a question; it's kind of random. What did you do that got Mommy's attention?" Oh boy ...
"You mean when we were younger?" I ask.
"Yes."
"Well, I suppose you'd have to ask Mommy that" I answer. Dodged the question. Truthfully, I have no idea what I did but I'm sure it was something idiotic that I wouldn't want Henry mimicking.
Why not push my luck? I take one small step into unknown 'Henry' territory.
"Is there anyone in your class who's attention you're trying to get?" I ask.
Predictably, he answers "I don't know."
"That's cool" I reply, and wait. 30 seconds go by. I know he's not sleeping.
"I'm still trying to figure out who in my class I like" he offers.
I wait some more.
"There's this one person..." he says and then trails off. Bingo.
"What's the name?" I ask.
"Who? Of the girl?" he replies. Like we weren't just talking about that very topic. He must've learned that classic stalling tactic from me.
"Yes. I don't know many people in your class so I probably don't know her." I answer, acting like I don't care if he tells me or not.
"Her name is Julia".
That's cool. Where's she from?" I ask.
"Canada". Too bad. Just kidding. Sort of.
"Canada, ay?" I couldn't help myself with the 'ay?'. He didn't get it anyway.
It's too bad Jess is still in China. She would know exactly who this mystery girl is. Now I'm going to have to go all NSA and find out on my own.
