Adoption Day 12
Sorry, I've fallen a little behind on my blogging.
On Monday we started the day with a group picture and then a few hours at the Guangzhou Zoo. The weather was fantastic so it was nice to be out walking. It also gave us more of a chance to talk with the other adoptive families and learn their adoption stories. The other families in our group are all strong Christians and it's nice to see how God has worked in their lives.
The zoo itself is not too much to brag about. The animal enclosures are more like cages than representations of their natural habitat so it was a bit depressing, especially for some of the bigger animals like bears and jaguars.
Like our favorite zoo in Germany, the Guangzhou Zoo also had a large display devoted to raccoons. I don't really understand the fascinations with raccoons. They poop on your deck in the night. Nice trick but is it really "zoo worthy"?
After the zoo, we took the bus back to the hotel and Miko (our guide) helped us find an international clinic that we could use to give Priscilla an exam for our company insurance. The form that the doctor must sign is vague so it's typically difficult to find a doctor willing to sign it. Lucky for us, there is an international clinic in our hotel complex. After we explained the situation, the doctor (from the Netherlands) examined Priscilla and signed our form!
After the doctor, we met the rest of the group to take a Pearl River boat cruise. The cruise included a Chinese buffet dinner and a "show" at the end.
The boat ride was nice because of all the lights on the river at night. We've taken boat rides before, and it's a great way to see the city, especially at night.
The buffet was way better than I expected, but still not good. Pretty standard chinese fare. Cold chicken feet. Yum.
